Guidelines & Procedures

DEADLINE: Friday, February 6, 2009

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Each registrant may submit one abstract of his or her work for poster presentation during the symposium. Only those abstracts that have been reviewed and selected by the Symposium Chairpersons may be presented.

The Symposium Chairpersons will evaluate the scientific quality of the submitted abstracts on the basis of the following criteria: novelty and relevance of the research, significance of the findings, and clarity. Authors should be particularly aware of the importance of setting forth the objectives and hypotheses of the study in a clear, concise manner and of summarizing the new results. If an abstract is poorly written, such that the Symposium Chairpersons cannot determine its novelty and importance, the paper will not be accepted for presentation at the Symposium.

The GCCRI Symposium is committed to the advancement of pediatric cancer research and the cure and prevention of pediatric cancer through the facilitation of communication and full dissemination of knowledge among scientists and others dedicated to the pediatric cancer problem.

Authors submitting abstracts for presentation at this GCCRI Symposium should consider the following:

  1. Abstracts must describe in a succinct manner the purposes and results of the research so that the quality, originality, and comprehensiveness of the work can be evaluated by the Symposium Chairpersons. Each abstract should contain: (a) an introductory sentence indicating the purpose(s) of the study; (b) a brief description of pertinent experimental procedures; (c) a summary of the data; and (d) a statement of the conclusions.
  2. Titles should be indicative of the content of the abstract.  Avoid nonstandard abbreviations in abstract titles.
  3. Abbreviations may be used in the body of an abstract if they are defined at their first mention in the text.
  4. Because of administrative and time constraints, supplemental data submitted along with the abstract cannot be transmitted to the Symposium Chairpersons for review.
  5. The accuracy of the submitted abstract is the responsibility of the authors.  Authors should prepare and proofread their abstracts carefully prior to submission.
  6. All ABSTRACT SUBMITTERS must register to attend the GCCRI Symposium. If an abstract is accepted and the SUBMITTER does not register, the abstract may be withdrawn.
  7. ABSTRACT SUBMITTERS will receive an initial notification of receipt in the form of a confirmation e-mail. Notifications of abstract receipt will be sent to the ABSTRACT SUBMITTER only. NOTE: the e-mailed confirmation of receipt is not a notice of acceptance of the abstract for presentation at the Symposium.
  8. Once an abstract has been submitted, it may be withdrawn only by written request from the ABSTRACT SUBMITTER. The request must be sent by e-mail to besancon@uthscsa.edu and must be received at least 20 days prior to the start of the conference.
  9. Accepted abstracts will be included in the Symposium handbook that will be given to all Symposium attendees upon arrival at the meeting
