Kathryn Crouch (Aune Lab) Among the Winners at the Robert A. Clark Frontiers of Translational Science Research Day

The Robert Clark Frontiers of Translational Science Research Day showcases posters that illustrate completed or ongoing research projects in Translational Science.  This year, due to current gathering restrictions, the event was hosted virtually.

After a day full of innovative research presentations, Kathryn Crouch from the Greehey CCRI received an award for her presentation titled “Novel Anthracyclines Encapsulated in Nanoparticle Preserves Cardiac Function.”

Partnered with Qana Therapeutics, her lab under the mentorship of Dr. Gregory J. Aune, MD, PhD, is investigating the use of a Myr5a nanoparticle loaded with anthracyclines to treat Ewing Sarcoma cells.

Their preliminary data found that anthracyclines encapsulated in the Myr5A nanoparticles caused less cardiac dysfunction than conventional Doxorubicin in non-tumor-bearing C57BL6/J mice.

Her lab’s future research is aimed at further supporting their overall hypothesis on the selectivity of the nanoparticle to cancerous cells.
