About the Speaker(s)
Stefano Tiziani is an associate professor of nutritional sciences at The University of Texas at Austin and holds courtesy appointments in the Department of Oncology and Department of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School. Additionally, he holds an adjoint position in the Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Tiziani is also a full member of the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes.
Tiziani received his Laurea in chemistry at the University of Trieste in Italy and his Ph.D. at The Ohio State University. He completed postdoctoral training in metabolomics-based systems biology and molecular oncology at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif.
Research interests in his laboratory focus on translational chemical biology using a cutting-edge metabolomics-based systems biology approach for metabolic biomarker discovery. His laboratory combines high-throughput screening measurements; magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mass spectrometry-based metabolomics; metabolic flux analysis; and other omic data to gain a better bio-mechanistic understanding of the effects of combined drug treatment and nutrient modulation in cancer and noncancer conditions. His current research is actively devoted to developing, integrating and correlating high-throughput screening and untargeted metabolomics data to identify cancer vulnerabilities and accelerate the identification of novel synergistic combinatorial treatment for more precise control of complex biological systems. His lab is constantly engaged in revealing the link between cellular pathways and biological mechanisms shaping our understanding of nutrition, chemical biology, physiology, and medicine.
