UT Health SA Newsroom: CPRIT awards $10.9 million to Greehey institute for cancer research

The Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute at the Health Science Center garnered $10.9 million from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT)―a larger amount than any other academic institution in the state.

The Health Science Center received 24 percent of the $45.3 million awarded to 13 academic institutions on May 18. The grant was the largest ever made by CPRIT to the university.

Since 2004, UT Health San Antonio, Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute’s (Greehey CCRI) mission has been to advance scientific knowledge relevant to childhood cancer, contribute to the understanding of its causes, and accelerate the translation of knowledge into novel therapies. Through the discovery, development, and dissemination of new scientific knowledge, Greehey CCRI strives to have a national and global impact on childhood cancer.
