TEXAS PUBLIC RADIO: About 1,800 Children Die Of Cancer Every Year In The U.S.
More than 15,000 children and adolescents up to 19 years old will receive a cancer diagnosis this year, according to the National Cancer Institute.
After accidents, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 14. Conditions most commonly affecting children include leukemia, lymphoma, and tumors affecting the bones or neural systems.
Since 2004, UT Health San Antonio, Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute’s (Greehey CCRI) mission has been to advance scientific knowledge relevant to childhood cancer, contribute to understanding its causes, and accelerate the translation of knowledge into novel therapies. Greehey CCRI strives to have a national and global impact on childhood cancer by discovering, developing, and disseminating new scientific knowledge.
